hotels

A frequently asked question that we get is "in what park will age group X be playing so we can plan our hotel?"

We understand the importance of knowing where your child’s age group will be playing. For our smaller tournament that has games at one park it is easy, obviously. And our mid-Fall tournament has two parks that are six miles apart, which is also easy since hotels should be in the same area. However, for our larger tournaments are held in multiple parks across Columbus, all age groups can have games scheduled at any of these parks. We do not assign specific age groups to parks to maintain flexibility of the schedule and to accommodate as many teams as possible. The exact location of your team's matches will not be known until after the schedule is completed. The rough draft of the schedule is usually done 3 weeks before the start of the tournament.

APPLICATION

Application vs. Registration Deadlines

  • The application deadline is when teams must submit an application to be considered for playing in the tournament.
  • The registration deadline is when teams must have all the paperwork uploaded for certification.

Helpful Application Hints

  1. For clubs applying with multiple teams, please shorten your team's name so the entire name may be viewed in ther schedule. Otherwise, team names may not show completely and cause confusion. For example, if Club Ohio has Club Ohio Green 1 and Club Ohio Green 2 in the same age group, consider shortening the team names and labeling them as Club Ohio G1 and Club Ohio G2.
  2. Please select the desired level of play. Ultimately, our goal is to place your team in an appropriate division. Placement is based on past performance at our events, other events, league results provided, and the level of play requested. Please note that requesting a level is just one factor in your placement and does not guarantee placement at that level.
  3. Please include previous team results. To properly place your team, it is important to clearly view your past results and the competition your respective team has played. The tournament committee greatly appreciates your assistance with this to ensure a competitive tournament for all participants.
  4. Teams with no information given on the application will not be placed in the lowest bracket unless the team resume indicates, or a representative has contacted the tournament committee.
  5. Coaches with more than one team must complete the "Coaching Conflict Reduction Form" which will be sent out around the time initial divisions are published. The committee will attempt to avoid as many scheduling conflicts as possible and this works best for coaches with two (2) teams. For coaches with three (3) or more teams, it will be very challenging, and we suggest you have a coach that is able to assist with game coverage as we can't guarantee there won't be scheduling conflicts.

Registration

Application and Registration Deadlines

Sometimes the Application and Registration deadlines are confused for each other. Perhaps this explanation will distinguish the the two.

Step 1: Apply to the tournament before the application deadline in order to be considered. While the application process does allow you to upload registration documents at that time, they are not required until after your team is accepted.

Step 2: After your application have been accepted, you must upload the registration documents before the registration deadline.

Concussion Training

The NFHS has teamed up with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to educate coaches, officials, parents and students on the importance of proper concussion recognition and management in high school sports. This course highlights the impact of sports-related concussion on athletes, teaches how to recognize a suspected concussion, and provides protocols to manage a suspected concussion with steps to help players return to play safely after a concussion. Each state's requirements for concussion management are included as part of the course.

The free course can be found here: https://nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2.
