Club Ohio U17B Green Ohio Cup Champions

Club Ohio U17B Green went undefeated in group play on their way to winning the US Club Ohio Cup. The boys started by defeating Ohio South rival Ohio Galaxies Elite 3-1, then defeated the Cleveland Whitecaps of Ohio North by the same scoreline. Both of these matches were typical of the season: the boys enjoyed most of the possession and were able to penetrate with their short passing game, or a moment of individual skill by one of the wingers or central midfield players. In the last group match, the boys scored early and late for a 3-2 victory over CUP Crew Juniors Silver.

In the final, GK Corey Mankins had very little to do, as the boys scored early and often and went into halftime up 3-0. The boys continued to control the match, and added another goal to make the final score 4-0. Juan Barros scored two headed goals from RB Robert Castillo, Ryan Husband scored a tap in after LB Patrick Gualtieri went on one of his trademark runs from the back and sent a cross into the six yard box. Matt McNamara rounded out the scoring for the boys.

The Ohio Cup championship qualified the boys for the US Club Midwest Regional. The boys came up short at this event, but played against top competition and gained some valuable experience in the process. For over 60 minutes, the boys hung with an Academy team, FC Golden State (currently ranked #31 in the country), before eventually losing 2-4. Ryan Husband had a goal disallowed for offside and also had a header saved by a fantastic save from the opposition GK. In the 2nd match, Husband again found the back of the net, this time after nine passes and only 47 seconds! Matt McNamara delivered the final cross into the box, which Husband headed in with ease. Unfortunately, it woke the opposition, who are currently ranking #1 in Illinois and #11 in Region 2, and they went on to win the match. The final match, both teams were extremely tired from the efforts of the weekend, and the game was played at a slower pace as a result. Unfortunately for the boys, the referee decided the match with a penalty call against, which the forward placed into the corner. The Galaxy (currently #3 in Illinois and #22 in Region 2) added another one late as the boys pushed for the equalizer.

All in all, Club Ohio U17B Green had a great season, in which they went undefeated at the Ohio Galaxies Fall Showcase, Ohio Elite College Showcase, and Carmel Crossroads of America Showcase. The squad also went 5-1 en route to winning the Elite division of the Buckeye Premier League. Congrats on a great season boys!!
